Frequently asked questions

  • How much does kitten insurance cost?

How much you pay for kitten insurance varies depending on a number of factors, such as:

    • Your kitten’s breed. The type of breed will make a difference, as some breeds are more prone to certain health conditions than others. For this reason, pedigree cats might cost more to insure than moggies, for instance.
    • If they have any pre-existing medical conditions. If a cat has any pre-existing conditions, this might make insuring them more costly. But you should tell us if your kitten has any conditions, because – if they need it – it’s important to have the right level of cover in place. With our Lifetime Plus policies, we might be able to offer cover for existing conditions, subject to acceptance*.
    • Where you live. You may need to pay more for kitten insurance in certain areas of the county, such as London. This is because they’re considered higher risk, based on the amount of claims made there. This also means what you pay for cover may increase or decrease when you move.
  • Will kitten insurance cover vaccinations?

Preventative care such as vaccinations aren’t generally covered by pet insurance policies, and Petgevity kitten insurance is no different in that regard. It’s up to you to get your kitten vaccinated and keep your shots up to date. This is also a condition of our cover, but you can rest assured that your kitten will be comprehensively covered for accidental injuries or illness.

  • Am I covered if my kitten is lost or stolen?

Missing Pet Cover can be added to a Petgevity policy as an optional extra. This add-on can cover the cost of advertising, or even a reward for their return, to help get your kitten safely home.

If you’re not reunited in 30 days, you’ll also be covered up to the market value of your kitten, or the cost of cover.

  • Is dental cover included in my kitten insurance?

Our standard kitten insurance includes treatment for dental accidents up to your chosen vet fee limit. You can then extend your cover to include dental illness, up to a maximum of £5,000 or your vet fee limit (whichever is lower).

Some other providers don’t cover dental illness, but this depends on the individual provider and the policy type you choose.

You can find out more about how to keep your kitten’s teeth healthy with advice from a UK vet.

†Lifetime Plus policies only

*Cover for pre-existing medical conditions is subject to acceptance. They will not be covered unless you have declared them and they are shown on your Confirmation of Cover.

**Illnesses and symptoms won’t be covered in the first 14 days and accidents won’t be covered in the first 2 days of the policy. This is unless you are switching from another lifetime pet insurance product with no break in cover and the claim you want to make would have been covered by your previous policy. Other exclusions may apply to other sections.
