Frequently asked questions

  • Why should I choose Petgevity to cover my pet?

As an award-winning pet insurance provider, we’ve won the trust of owners in their thousands. We strive to be inclusive of all cats and dogs, and want to offer cover to as many as we can.

With our Lifetime Plus policy, there’s no upper age limit. We can also cover pets with a wide range of pre-existing conditions, hopefully removing a lot of worry for owners whose pets have suffered illnesses or injuries.

With all policies, you can choose your pet’s cover limits, plus any optional extras you feel your cat or dog may benefit from. It’s easy to manage your policy online, or make a claim if you need to.

Joining the Petgevity family also means you get 24/7 access to expert vet video call support. Our trusted partners FirstVet are happy to help with any queries about your pet’s health and medical needs, nutritional and behavioural advice.

We also love animals with a passion, so we’d be delighted to help where we can with your journey as a pet parent.

  • What does Petgevity cover?

Our policies of course include vet fee cover. You get the choice of £1k – £15k cover annually, which can go towards things like:

    • Complementary therapy
    • Behavioural treatment
    • Dental accidents
    • Euthanasia
    • CT or MRI scans up to £2k
    • Cruciate ligaments up to £2k

You’re also covered for emergency pet care. Plus if you have a dog, your policy will cover you for third-party liability – for example if your dog causes somebody an injury, or damages their property.

We also cover dental accidents as standard. Be aware though that you won’t be able to claim for things like teeth cleaning, which is considered to be a routine preventative treatment.

You have the choice to add optional extras to your policy too:

    • Dental Illness
    • Travel and Holiday cover
    • Missing Pet cover
    • Farewell cover, for certain end-of-life care and procedures

If you’ve bought our optional dental illness cover, you can claim for medication or other treatments (including operations) to relieve suffering due to dental illness.

  • What doesn’t Petgevity cover?

Pet insurance policies often do not cover certain routine treatments and procedures, and Petgevity is no different in this regard. For instance, our policies won’t cover:

    • Routine and preventative treatments such as flea and worming
    • Primary or booster vaccinations
    • Neutering (spaying and castration)
    • Routine scale and polishes
    • Routine or investigative tests, unless they’re to diagnose a new or worsening condition which is covered by your policy
  • Does Petgevity offer a multi-pet policy?

Yes indeed. With our multi-pet insurance, you can cover up to eight cats and/or dogs in your family under policy.

This is easy to manage, cuts down on admin, and you just have the one renewal date to remember. You also have the flexibility to set individual cover limits per pet, to suit their specific needs.

  • Does Petgevity cover older pets?

With our Petgevity Lifetime Plus policy, there are no upper age limits for senior dogs or older cats.

Sometimes pet insurance providers won’t take on new pets after they reach a certain age. This is usually eight for dogs and ten for cats.

Our Lifetime Plus policy will cover pets over this age. With other policies, you might need to make a co-payment for older pets, and we will not cover death benefits. Please always check the terms and conditions so you know exactly what you’re covered for.

  • Can I switch to Petgevity from another provider with continuous cover?

If you’re switching to us from another lifetime pet insurer, if the policy is the same level of protection and there’s no break in the period you’re insured, we can provide continuous cover**.

What this means is that, if you need to claim for an accident or illness towards the start of the policy, you won’t be subject to any waiting periods.

†Lifetime Plus policies only

*Cover for pre-existing medical conditions is subject to acceptance. They will not be covered unless you have declared them and they are shown on your Confirmation of Cover.

**Illnesses and symptoms won’t be covered in the first 14 days and accidents won’t be covered in the first 2 days of the policy. This is unless you are switching from another lifetime pet insurance product with no break in cover and the claim you want to make would have been covered by your previous policy. Other exclusions may apply to other sections.
